About

Meet Emily

For as long as I can remember, I have been a bit of a word nerd. English was always my best subject in school, and you can almost always find me with a book in my hand (my favourite is To Kill a Mockingbird, but I’ll never say no to a good mystery!). Spelling and grammar have always come easily to me, and yes, I have absolutely been the person mentally correcting mistakes I’ve come across, like on menus…signs…emails from my boss…

Education

I studied English Lit at university and read everything from the Elizabethan era to children’s literature. But after my school cut a bunch of programs from the English department, I ended up majoring in psychology instead.

Years after I graduated, I got a job that involved auditing databases. Sounds pretty tedious, but I always liked doing it! I’ve had a knack my whole life for noticing small details, so it was right up my alley.

I decided to put two of my talents to good use and become a proofreader! Who better to read over pages of documents and follow the sometimes illogical, often a little crazy rules of English grammar than me?

Experience & Free Time

Previously, I worked for several years in business administration and took my love of language one step further when I studied American Sign Language for about a year. I also have experience in technical writing and editing.

In my free time, you can find me spending time with friends and family, hanging out with my dog, and of course, getting lost in a good book. I love to swim, go hiking, and take a trip around the lake in a kayak. I’m a novice at Pilates and enjoy reliving my ballet days at a barre.
